MEMBER UPDATE

February 8, 2013

Despite the breakdown in talks yesterday, StFXAUT members are back on the picket line today with new resolve to secure a fair agreement and change the culture of entitlement at X.

“The administration’s efforts to obstruct the membership and its unwillingness to invest in academic workers at X is having the opposite effect,” said AUT president Peter McInnis. “Our members remain strong and determined.”

Fly-in and drive-in pickets from the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) and the Association of Nova Scotia University Teachers (ANSUT) will join us again for our second Solidarity Rally. Faculty associations across the country who are facing the same issues on their campuses are closely following the strike at X, and showing their support by their presence, letters and monetary support.

At today’s rally we are going to build a REAL Academic X-Ring!! All members are asked to come to the perimeter of X at noon, and be part of creating a human ring around X. Supporters from across Canada, students and Antigonish community members will be joining us to encircle the campus from Convocation Drive to Hillcrest Avenue. We will be making noise in a tintamarre until 12:30. Come be part of rebranding the X-ring!!

Then later join your colleagues at tonight’s Solidarity Supper starting at 6:00 pm at St. James United Church.
