Modest salaryincreases and contract extensions for vulnerable lecturers and staffshould be a matter of course at StFX. We cannot separate the teachingwork done at a university from other work done there to sustain theinstitution, nor the teaching and research of tenure stream faculty fromthe writing lab and other work done by lecturers and untenturedinstructors there. The AUT has explained that this strike is not mainlyabout tenure-stream professors, but rather about preserving the teachingmission at StFX. This is a fight for basic fairness that is going on inmy university system as well. I support your stand to preserve theteaching mission at StFx and am glad to see that you are working tostrengthen faculty governance and responsibility in a time when these aregenerally being eroded.
