MEMBER UPDATE

February 12, 2013

StFXAUT members headed back to the picket lines today to begin the third week in our strike for a fair and equitable contract, and to begin two new initiatives for our students.

The Unionversity opens today and will remain open until the end of the strike. Rachel Hurst and other Association members have developed a course catalogue, and will offer free teach-ins for students and community members on issues related to our labour action, including collective bargaining, strikes, and the general context of post-secondary education unions. The first teach-in will be held today at the People’s Place Library Meeting Room, 1:00 – 2:30 pm, on “What the hell is going on and what can I do about it?” with Nancy Forestell and Rachel Hurst.

There are a couple of ways that members and students can connect with the Unionversity.

If you want to do your own teach-in, please see the information in the course calendar.

R n R Productions will be visiting the picket lines on Wednesday to record messages from members that will be packaged into a Video Valentine to the students from the AUT. If you’re interested in participating, your brief Valentine’s Day message should include why you are on strike and why you miss the students and teaching. Let your picket captain know if you have a Valentine to send to your students.
