A letter posted today by StFX President Sean Riley on the university’s website and faculty listserv states the AUT Executive is committed to “reaching a tentative agreement and to taking it to the membership for a ratification vote this week.” Some media reports have also said classes could begin as early as next week.
Union president Peter McInnis reminds members, “There is no deal yet. We are approaching the negotiations tomorrow in good faith and expect to bargain. if the talks are productive we will return to the members with a tentative agreement, but we are waiting to see what the employer brings to the table.” He added, “Efforts by administrators to manipulate the standard negotiating process will not work.”
