The StFXAUT stands in solidarity with StFX students and students from other Nova Scotia universities as they rally against the provincial government’s recent cuts to post-secondary education. This latest announcement from the Houston government compounds chronic underfunding in a sector essential to the current and future economic sustainability of Nova Scotia. The elimination of graduate scholarships, termination of the interinstitutional PhD in Education program, and rollbacks to supports for work-integrated learning are detrimental to current and future students and diminishes the importance and investment in a key area of Nova Scotian society, the Education sector, which is already nationally lagging. We call on Mr. Houston and the Nova Scotia government to recognize the unique contributions of the post-secondary sector to our provincial well-being, its impact on the overall viability of the Nova Scotian economy and to continue to support and build our nationally distinguished post-secondary network.
